In addition, Edward has been a business owner, real estate broker, and business consultant for over 35 years, and is able to offer his varied experience in applying powerful happiness concepts/methods in real world situations (and business too). Edward believes that everyone should have the huge advantage of understanding the happiness thinking, attitudes and actions of the happiest people. He also believes that everyone should have the mind set, knowledge and healthy habits to work towards “Half of age Super Health”. He has researched and experimented on himself since he was 27, and has been able to basically maintain the body of a healthy 30 year old for over 40 years (still able to run close to a 5 minute mile and do 15 pull ups etc.).
A life time of dedication to happiness and health
Edward Southwick, Certified Family Life Educator and author of “The 10 Habits of Happy People”, has devoted his entire adult life to researching, learning and teaching about happiness (and health).
Edward’s passion for teaching happiness developed because of how unhappy he had been through age 27 (partly because of hereditary traits and habits of being very sensitive, shy, overly analytical and serious minded). Although he was able to graduate from college in just 2 and 1/2 years and was quite successful in real estate, he was not happy. He realized that neither his intelligence nor money was making him happy. So he went on a quest to discover how to change.
After 17 years of reading dozens of happiness books, interviewing 50 exceptionally happy people (in America and Japan) and applying what he had learned, he became dramatically more happy (and much healthier too). Then, after writing his book, he gave happiness seminars all over Japan, appeared frequently on national TV and even had his own weekly radio spot. Since then he he has taught thousands of people how to greatly increase their happiness and health.
Edward offers classes, speeches and personal coaching on the concepts, thinking, methods and life styles of exceptionally happy people which he has obtained not only from the 57 happy people he has interviewed but from hundreds of happiness research papers, books, and his own personal experience. He also teaches “Half of Age Super Health” to start feeling and performing like you’re half your age. He also offers amazingly effective information and coaching on how to find and develop the relationship of your life (see Testimonials).
Edward moved to Japan in the 1980s and has spent almost 20 total years living there while operating several businesses including an English school, business consulting and happiness classes. He also acts as a real estate broker from time to time and sold almost $50 million during one period in 1989/1990 (although he notes that even with the many large and regular $100,000 plus commissions he often didn’t feel very happy or satisfied– not until more seriously following his own happiness program shortly after).
Edward also had his own 15 minute weekly radio program (“Edward’s Anything Goes English”) and appeared as a semi-regular commentator on an very popular prime time television show called “The Strange Habits of the Japanese” (Koko ga Hen da yo Nihongin). He did many speeches and classes on happiness including regular seminars across Japan for San Marie, the 2nd largest match making service in Japan. He also wrote a column on relationships for Lycos Japan along with other Japanese celebrities which then became the most popular Japanese dating/relationship site in Japan.
Now having moved back to the United States and mostly finished with his other businesses, Edward is passionately devoting most of his time to teaching these powerful life improving happiness/health concepts and methods.
Below are just a few of the many newspapers and magazines he appeared in Japan (most of the others were in Japanese).

June 2019 (Nevada) After hearing Edward give a short presentation on his Happiness and self-improvement group lessons it piqued my curiosity and got me questioning my latest stalled plans for my own happiness. It was truly a very bad time in my life (I was in despair and depressed) so I knew I had to do something. His short explanation about his group lessons and a brief talk with him afterwards gave me some hope, and he saw things in me that I didn't, and through some group lessons and personal coaching he was definitely able to bring out the best in me. Edward has given me the tools and steered me into a much better direction to build the foundation for a much better life and happier way of thinking no matter what the situation is at the time. In more concrete terms, I am healthier now and so amazingly happy, and even my financial situation has gotten better. With his guidance my life is now on a much better path than it has been in many years and I can't put into words or say enough how thankful I am for the help he has given me in the last few months. If I were you out there reading this, I would strongly recommend that you give him a call and put some trust not only in Edward but also in yourself, and you'll be amazed at the positive changes you can make with his coaching... and it keeps getting better.

I started personal life coaching with Edward about a year ago. At that time I was really struggling, feeling very down and in particular about a relationship I'd lost and couldn't seem to get past. I hadn't really been confident before either, but I was at a new low on confidence and self-esteem then. I really didn't believe I could ever get a relationship again, and certainly not one nearly as good as I'd had. So my life was pretty much on hold and I was very busy with my job and I wasn't really taking care of my health either.
Edward got me exercising more effectively and eating much more healthily, and I've lost weight and am in great shape now. But the biggest thing was how he was able to motivate me, especially in dating and really increase my confidence and get me to realize and use my strong points. In the beginning he coached me a lot on how to present myself and talk etc. I went from no dates to starting to get dates with woman around my age but that I wasn't necessarily that attracted to, to dating some my age who I was more interested in, and lately with even more confidence I've been able to now actually find and maintain a really great relationship with a much younger, attractive and smart woman. I couldn't have even imagined this before. I am so much happier, healthier and with this great relationship now. Even if you don't think your life can change I strongly recommend you give Edward a try.
